BLACKCATS- BOTTLED UP |SINGLE REVIEW
May 29 | Written By Shayma Noorashour
‘Bottled Up’, is a new single released by Glasgow based band ‘Blackats’. The single is the 4 th track from the upcoming and self-titled ‘Blackcats EP’. Blackcats create music that is within the alternative rock and heavy metal genre, which clearly comes through in this single. Blackcats are artistically influenced by iconic rock bands such as Alice and Chains and Arctic Monkeys. These influences and sounds certainly reflect in the ‘Bottled up’ single as well as the bands more general sound.
The track begins with a unique and long bass guitar and drums opening, before starting with impressive vocals from Alex Twist. The core sound of the track ‘Bottled Up’ embraces a more emotional and meaningful sound, which signifies a change in negative thinking and thoughts towards a more positive mindset and breaking away from negative energy.
This can be heard in the opening lyrics ‘’ Ive been locked inside your mental celldigging holes for weeks’’. These lyrics present a feeling of resentment or perhaps even having a difficult relationship dynamic with an individual who may possess a negative aura. The chorus then shifts into demonstrating how the individual has now broken away from ‘bottling up’ these negative feelings and emotions. The lyrics ‘’ I’ve been bottled up for far too long somethings got to give now Im pouring out the tides too strong for you to swim so you’e drowning at the bottom’’ clearly highlights the change in mental state.
Overall, the track and in particular the chorus, is melodic and very memorable thanks to its ability to story tell through emotive lyrics and catchy guitar and drumming instrumental. The track ‘Bottled Up’ certainly stands out in Blackcats EP. The meaning behind the track most definitely resonates with many people and can inspire many into feeling good and positive.
Blackcats have made several appearances on stage in Glasgow, including the Nice N Sleazys, Flying Duck and Broadcast venues so make sure to catch them as they expand their fan base and presence.
