Jordan Dean - ‘Attention’ | EP Review
December 16 | Written By Lauren Ketterl
Indie-turned-rock artist Jordan Dean released a new two-song EP titled “Attention” on October 23rd. It features two re-released songs and is berserk!
The EP features two songs: the title track, ‘Attention,’ and ‘Drunk,’ both of which may ring a bell if you are familiar with Dean’s music. ‘Drunk was released on his first EP, ‘Local,’ in March 2021, and it has since become one of his most popular songs. He later released ‘Attention’ in 2023 as a single.
This re-release is another example of Dean’s transition from more alternative-leaning music to a rock-style era for the artist. Following his cover of ‘Gloria (Live at Bad Racket),’ written by legendary Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison, Dean’s music has leaned towards rock, and he hasn’t looked back since, releasing three rock-style songs since that cover, which are a part of his “From the Garage” series.
These two songs perfectly exhibit Dean’s shift into more rock-focused music. The original release of ‘Drunk’ is quieter and displays his more alternative sound when compared to the re-release, which fully embraces the new rock era. Apart from the change in sound, there is also a slight change in lyrics in the re-release. The chorus changes from “And I’m trying my best, but you get me on my own. And every time I drink, I wanna drive home. Convince me that I shouldn’t be alone.” to “And I’m trying my best to make sure I know that every time she thinks it's under control, it’s bringing me down.” Needless to say, this new version of the song lives up to the original.
‘Attention’ didn’t see the same change as ‘Drunk’ did, but the newest version seems to have a slightly more mature sound. The only difference with this song is Dean's official music video, which will leave you feeling strange.
Overall, Jordan Dean’s re-releases prove that not only is he capable of creating amazing alternative music, but he has also been able to master the sound of rock.
