The up-and-coming country music meets indie band, The Ocho released their new single ‘Stand Up Boy’ on June 28th and this new song is too good to miss. This slower song shows off this incredibly talented group’s lyric combined with an electric sound.

Forming in Athens, Georgia, at the University of Georgia, the group is made up of members Garrett Seitz on vocals and keyboard, Ashwin Gidwani on drums, Jonah Bergman and Patrick Dries on guitar, and Parker Foles on bass.

The group gained popularity on TikTok after releasing their EP “Spring Without a Lover” in June of 2023. The five-song release spotlights life in Athens and the college experiences you have with your friends. Their newest song takes on a motivational turn to encourage boys to stand up for themselves. It addresses the changes of growing up and needing to have the courage to stand up for yourself. 

The lyrics “He doesn’t like growing old, he doesn’t like getting told what to do,” refers to adolescence and not wanting to grow or having anyone tell you want you can or cannot do. “Their whole lives being told what to do,” backs this idea of having to stand up for yourself after constantly having people tell you what to do.

“Is that not the same way you lived yesterday? When you going to change?” exhibits a push for change to straighten up and stand up for yourself.
