The Zebecks are the newest group to look out for in the Scottish music scene. Friends since primary school, this four-piece group from Elgin have gone from writing papers together to headlining the iconic King Tuts in Edinburgh and appearing on BBC’s Introducing. The group have been rising quickly and gaining recognition in the Glasgow scene for their talents and have just released their debut track, ‘Breakthrough.’

Throughout playing live shows, the band expressed experiencing a period of change during and with this, they found new ways of expressing creativity.

It is notable how incredibly well produced and professional the group and the song both sound. The chorus picks up into a slightly more upbeat chorus that listeners can imagine being incredible live.  

Going into the second verse the chorus again shifts, introducing new rhythms and melodies, treating the listener to the element of surprise, and not knowing what is to come next. The moody and melancholic lyrics perfectly reflect the thrashy guitar and belting vocals.  

Overall, Breakthrough is certainly a must listen. The structure breaks what we as listeners are used to and the song pulls elements from many inspirations giving it a sound that is unique. Upon listening to Breakthrough, it become clear exactly why The Zebecks have been made such a bang with their debut within the Scottish music scene.
