OCEXNS - Under The Wire | Single Review

OCEXNS are the type of band that listeners instantly won’t be able to get enough of. The Scottish four-piece create delectable indie rock, filled with buzzing riffs and catchy hooks. Heading in a direction which will surely shake up the Scottish indie-rock scene, their new single ‘Under the Wire’ epitomises what the band is about; solid, good tunes.
On the track the beat hits the listener firsts, underlaying the guitar that can’t help but make feet tap along. The fusion of rhythms is hypnotic, drawing in listeners in a way that already makes them long to replay the song before the first listen is even over.
The band’s vocal and lyrical ability are also given a chance to shine, baring a universal truth under the guise of sultry indie tones. Reminiscent of early Biffy Clyro style, many Scottish music enjoyers will love this. The lyrics tell an honest story of relationships and are layered in emotional vulnerability which elevates the track to a whole different level, showing OCEXNS are more than just another typical indie rock band. The musical skill is given a chance to shine with amazing guitar solo and bridge, managing to further cement the band further as ones to watch in the upcoming Scottish scene. The single builds brilliantly, making the 4 minute run time feel like seconds have passed, and listeners be easily lost in the track. The band manage to craft a feeling through sound, an atmosphere of excitement and joy through the strong guitar sections. It is one that will be amazing live, the song lending itself to being danced and sang loudly along to, as anyone who has seen the band live will surely attest.
Following this single release, OCEXNS are ones to watch for any fans of indie-rock. For their first single they’ve managed to capture exactly what the genre should be and establish buzz for whatever might come next. ‘Under the Wire’ is a perfect snippet of a great band who will undoubtedly grow into dominators of the genre in the Scottish scene.
