Sarah O’Moore - Troubled Mind |Single Review

April 12 | Written By Lauren Ketterl

Irish singer-songwriter, Sarah O’Moore is set to release her newest single on March 29th followed by her debut EP titled “Sleep Paralysis.” ‘Troubled Mind’ draws inspiration from James Joyce’s book Dubliners and turns it into a story about the hardship faced by youth today. The song gives a glimpse into the EP that is set to release on April 28th and shows off the heavy emotions this release is set to bring. The EP is set to take listeners on a journey through the hardships people face through their everyday human experiences, tacking topics such as domestic abuse and addiction.

Sarah O'Moore Troubled Mind

‘Troubled Mind’ has a soulful melody combined with heavy lyrics to captivate listeners and draw them into the weighted story this song tells. It deals with weakness, frustration, and the fight for freedom wrapped into one. There are powerful lyrics such as “hold my pride”, “there’s a weakness in my eyes”, and “freedom from hesitation” that draws back to the inspiration from the book Dubliners. It demonstrates the vast struggled faced by today’s youth and how they are told are silenced and told to deal with these issues on their own.

The chorus reads “Troubled mind, won’t you listen to my troubled mind,” which is sang with heavy emphasis like a plead for help. It’s almost as if you can hear the pain in the artist’s voice begging for someone to listen and do something. “Won’t you listen” sounds like a call to action, mixed with the deep emotion of the artist’s voice will make listeners want to get up and fight for a cause.

Another lyric that stands out is “Necessary take to defend the lie and the inquisition of the emotions that I have.” This meaning to looking into the array of emotions being felt by this person and kind of looking at why those emotions are being felt. It ties back to that feeling of looking for someone to listen to what you’re saying.

On a more positive note, the line “All I see is a better thing” which shows that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Even through the hardship and the difficulties everyone faces, if you believe you can get through it then you will have it in you to do so. This shows an optimistic view of the things that will come.

Overall, this song is an excellent adaptation of the challenges that younger people face today and if the EP to follow is anything like this song, listeners should be excited to hear more new music from Sarah O’Moore.
