The Shed Project | Our Fear Is Their Power

UK band, The Shed Project are back with their latest track ‘Our Fear Is Their Power’ which dropped on May 6th 2023. The punchy track expresses rebellious themes, going against the corrupt society we find ourselves currently living in. This ties in with the five-piece groups stance as a band that truly cares, following their prior track which was released in support of the mental health organisation WHYSUP. Covering the issue of corruption, the track is a powerful and punchy number, described by the band as ‘Smooth rolling toms, Machine gun snare beats, Swirling guitar lines and beautiful rolling bass lines all compliment the strong vocal delivery advocating Power to the People.’, a statement that is 100% true.
The track opens with a rumbling bass and melodic guitar, immediately capturing listeners with the moody vocals. The track shifts throughout, displaying dynamics as well as perfectly applied tone on instruments with the guitar and bass bringing in elements of angst, atmosphere and just all around great sound. Each element works perfectly with one another, bringing the song together and making it an enjoyable listen. Lead singer Roy Fletcher’s vocals are not only impressive and powerful, but also add a grungy element to the track, again working perfectly with each element of ‘Our Fear Is Their Power.’
The bridge features audio from political news broadcast from Boris Johnston, discussing the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. This addition reminds the listener of the songs real message as well as the reality of the songs title, that our fear truly is their power. Coming out of the bridge the piece continues into an energetic guitar solo which feels psychedelic yet powerful, with the moody vocals continuing underneath,.
Overall, ‘Our Fear is Their Power’ is not only an incredible track, but also perfectly summarises the group that is The Shed Project. Punchy, political and everything you would want in a punky rock track, the band have truly out done themselves. ‘Our Fear is Their Power’ is for sure a must listen and the talented musicans behind it are a band to keep an eye on.
