Live For yourself - the sapiens | EP Review

Jan 27 | Written By Kirsten Moreton

The Sapiens are an Aberdeen based indie band formed in 2022 when three musicians began jamming for fun. From these sessions four tracks were created and the band then recorded and released their debut EP, Live For Yourself, an upbeat alternative collection of songs.

The Ep kicks off with the opening track which shares a name with the Ep itself, Live For Yourself. The song opens with a punchy and funky guitar, following with the lead singers pleasant vocals. The track is incredibly upbeat and would be the perfect song for summer time. The cheerful tones to the song with the accompanying energetic drums and guitar gives the song a type of energy that would go down great in a live setting. You can almost imagine an audience bouncing around to the track.

Next up on the Ep is Hazy Jane, a slowed down and enjoyable song. Hazy Jane opens with an acoustic guitar, setting a calmer tone in contrast to the EPs opening, however, still fitting in great with a nice flow between the songs. The track is a nice chilled out song showing off and showcasing the groups talents both in their instruments but as well as in their songwriting. The track is dynamic, featuring different sections and elements throughout making it a great listen.

Wake up is another punchy fast paced track that would get any crowd going. The song again features a variety of sections with heavier and fast paced segments, followed by contrasting slowed down parts. It makes for a really interesting listen, you really don’t know what is to come in the best way possible with each track on the EP.

Finally, Live For Yourself comes to an end with Miss Librarian, another laid back track with funky guitar shared with intriguing elements and aspects. This track rounds off the EP perfectly, reminding us that The Sapiens create music that is a bit different in the best way possible, making them a must listen. After listening, music fans will be left excited to hear more for the new group.
