Julia Adrian- ‘Taxi Light’ | Single Review
July 12 | Written By Shayma Noorashour
Julia Adrian’s new single ‘Taxi Light’ has huge replay potential. The song is primarily pop based and has a catchy beat as well as memorable lyrics. This song speaks about a past romantic relationship that has fizzled out due to incompatibility and change. The overall sound of the song warm, rhythmic, melodic and also has jazz influences. This is a perfect summer song for those who are regaining independence and freedom after a breakup! The lyrics of the song portrays failed relationships in a quirky and interesting way. Artistically, the sound of the song would resonate with fans of women in pop such as Dua Lipa, Sabrina Carpenter and even Selena Gomez.
The vision behind the song, comes from the NYC based American comedy sitcom Sex And The City, and its famous use of ‘Taxi/cab light theory’. This theory discussed in the episode of the show, highlights that men are essentially like taxi’s/cabs and only become romantically committed when they suddenly decide to, therefore switching their ‘taxi light on’. This theory has become a hot topic of discussion in many pop culture spaces and Tik-Tok, and is a clever and witty use of metaphor. Julia concludes that in this particular occasion the other individual in the relationship has shown their true colours and decided to turn off their ‘taxi light’.
Julia Adrian is a NYC based artist/songwriter, who is behind the song ‘’Taxi Light’’. Taxi Light begins with the lyrics ‘’not gonna sleep with your best friends, try and hurt you like your ex did. F*ck, I forgot it was more than one girl which about four of your shady friends hid, can’t pretend you’re a bad person your actions kept me on guard. Unfortunately, this is not a buffet, apologies serve a la carte’’.
These lyrics highlights how one significant other in the relationship displayed dishonest and deceitful traits. However, Julia now speaks about the freedom and independence gained from parting ways in this type of relationship, and how she feels fiercely unapologetic in doing so.
In the chorus part of the song, Julia signifies how perhaps the toxic individual in the relationship is still struggling to move past the relationship, whilst the other person is happy and flourishing. This can be heard through the lyrics ‘’you reached independence, but it took you one month since we ended’’, and ‘’I could be completely wrong, but I just think you taxi light turned on’’. The song also makes use of clever punchlines and humour such as ‘’stalking my socials, I love that devotion, but your in the keys with your girlfriend’’.
Overall, Julia’s amazing vocals with the energetic beat sound amazing, on her new single Taxi Light. The song sends an empowering and a positive message to those who have experienced relationships and heartbreak. The song certainly sounds fresh and trendy and has huge potential as a pop/indie song. Unlike conventional breakup songs, that send a sad message, this song is upbeat, and positive. Be sure to join Julia on her music journey, as she releases more singles!
