On the 23rd of June 2023, Portugal. The Man, a rock band currently based in Portland, Oregon released their track titled ‘Grim Generation’ off of their new album titled Chris Black Changed My Life. Many listeners may recognise Portugal. The Man following their infectious Grammy-winning single ‘Feel It Still’ which skyrocketed off the charts back in 2017. Even so, the band actually began composing music way back in 2006, with the release of their first record entitled Waiter: "You Vultures!". Portugal. The Man was originally formed in Wasilla, Alaska back in 2004. The evocative band comprises of John Gourley (Lead Singer & Rhythm Guitarist), Zach Carothers (Bass Guitarist), Kyle O’Quin (Keyboardist & Guitarist), Jason Sechrist (Drummer), Eric Howk (Guitarist) & Zoe Manville (Singer & Percussionist). Interestingly, Gourley and fellow bandmate Manville have been long time partners. The pair welcomed the birth of their daughter in 2011.
‘Chris Black Changed My Life’ is Portugal. The Man’s ninth studio album, released in memory of a late close friend to the band. The album was produced by Jeff Bhasker, a Grammy award winning producer whom is a primary producer for multiple of Kanye West’s albums. Listeners may recognise that Chris Black Changed My Life is filled with inspiring lyrics, touching on multiple serious societal issues in between the exhilarating drum beats and melodious vocals.
