Nalgo Bay - Jealousy | Single Review

June 6 | Written By Jessica Pispisa

If a kick ass song is what you have a hankering for right now, then look no further than this brand- new track from NALGO BAY. Already getting the stamp of approval from the BBC’s Jericho Keys, this track comes in less than 3 minutes, but leaves you craving more from this brand-new indie rock outfit.

Nalgo Bay band

Originally from the North Yorkshire village of Cayton, this up-and-coming trio consisting of Terri-Ann Prendergast (vocals, bass), Harry Bullen (guitar, vocals) and Jon Dawes (drums), have just released a bomb of a tune that encapsulates what makes rock ‘n’ roll fun, exhilarating, and never f***ng boring. Jealousy is a rip-roaring track that serves as a great introduction to this band if you have not heard of them yet.

Produced by Sugar House, this song is a declaration that jealousy is something that the lead singer isn’t willing to deny or wish away, but own and take it for the ride: “Like a bruise/Give me a slap and then I choose/To push you back again/You can’t fire little guns without a trigger”

Out of all the emotions that exists in our nature, it goes without saying that jealousy is the one we all deplore to admit –to ourselves and others- the most. Terri-Ann Prendergast stunning vocals, reminiscent of that of Bonnie Tyler, with the swagger of Suzi Quatro and the dearly departed Tina Turner, makes this song an addictive listen and a future favourite where no one will be able to resist to sing along to.

The chorus that goes “Jealousy/That makes the face of smiling enemies/Just lift right here/And feel the weight of me/I keep in focus of the enemy/Comes to me” mirrors perfectly the wrought state this emotion brings out of someone, and instead of taking pity or making one take unwanted introspection as to why, that she can “feel it dancing in the pit of me” and “feel it break the better part of me”, they face it for the beast that it is. Bullen’s thunderous guitars and Dawes’ unrelenting percussion match the ferocity of Terri’s words, and it will make the listener only too excited to leave on repeat, and to hear it live.

Through this song, NALGO BAY have demonstrated confidence in their sound,

and a willingness not only to entertain but have fun. With a tune this loud and exciting, NALGO BAY really are the ones to watch.
