Oil Barton - ‘The Light’ | Single Review
July 9 2024 | Written by Eli Reinhardt
Oli Barton is an indie artist that’s taken the scene by storm with his energetic performances and wildly passionate vocals. His latest single, ‘The Light’ (2024), adds onto their growing catalog of head-bobbing classics. Centered around a first date between himself and a possible lover, this track takes listeners through the tired desire of two people out on a date with nothing but physical attraction on their mind.
The light is something Oli sees in others he goes out with, it represents a hope to find love. His date seems to have lost their light, much like he has, which leads them both to know exactly what kind of outcome they want from this venture. Each bridge expands on this feeling, with tender moments where Oli is brutally honest about the way he sees her and the substances they both take to feel more. The track’s tail end grows more intense as they end up at her place, finally able to show their true ambitions with each other. Vocals fade into a euphoric haze as Oli concludes the track on a high note.
Aside from his impressive singles, Oli’s recent album ‘Pipe Dreams’ (2023), is an impressive display of their creativity and range as an artist. ‘Get out’ (2023) is an upbeat anthem that currently has the most plays of any song on the album. However, their song directly before it, ‘What Will I Become?’ (2023), is a bold introspection into Oli’s mentality and doubts of the music industry that he desperately wants to make it big in. The album’s latter half takes an experimental turn that slows down to explore different emotions that he likely couldn’t in tracks mentioned previously. ‘Martyr’ (2023) is a particular stand out for its focus on love and the idea of martyring oneself for another, if only they would do the same for him.
‘The Light’ (2024), is a brilliant showcase of the personality Oli Barton brings to the table as an upcoming artist in the indie scene. His explosive vocals and brutal honesty make for a unique listening experience that’ll keep listeners hooked for days after their first listen.
