Revivalry - ‘Homesick’ | A Track Made to impress

June 20 | Written By Emily Whitchurch

Hailing from Cleethorpes, England, Revivalry are a three-piece teenage band aged 15 to 16, whose latest single ‘Homesick’ was released on May 26. ‘Homesick’ blends raw, gritty vocals with well-polished guitar and drums to create a fresh indie rock sound influenced by Arctic Monkeys and Catfish and the Bottlemen. While their previous tracks like Legion have a similar sound, ‘Homesick’ is refreshingly introspective and feels more dynamic, reflecting the band’s rapid growth and development.

‘Homesick’ focusses on self-discovery as a teenager, and is sure to expand Revivalry’s audience with its authenticity and relatability. Vocals from Ben Townsend and Josh Corfield are confident and merge smoothly together as they sing of getting away and feeling absent-minded, while their guitar skills add a punkier edge alongside Lewis Hubbert’s drums. ‘Homesick’ opens with strong instrumentals which continue throughout, softening at times to allow the vocals to shine.

Lyrically, listeners are launched straight into the infectious chorus, drawing them in immediately. A more stripped-back verse follows, before the now-familiar chorus resurges and Townsend and Corfield show off effortless harmonies. Midway through ‘Homesick’, Townsend delivers a flawless guitar riff, adding further dimension, while Hubbert’s drums confidently control the flow of the track and culminate in the final, punchy chorus. This comes after a short but impactful bridge. Indeed, the repetition of “lost and I found my way home” feeling tentatively optimistic in the context of self-discovery and mental health. Indeed, there is a sense of determination woven into the lyrics - they “will” get away from this place and have “gotta” find their way back, bringing both comfort and hope to other listeners who feel lost or are navigating new challenges.

Revivarly band

‘Homesick’ asserts Revivalry as a bold, talented trio who are sure to impress new listeners. Since their debut in 2019, Revivalry have performed at Kendal Calling festival and appeared in BBC Introducing, as well as touring across Northern England. Already developing a confident sound, the band’s future is undoubtedly bright, and their upcoming summer performances in Cleethorpes, Grimsby and Hull to name a few are sure to triumph.
