The Exhales | Gig Review

March 2 | Written By Kirsten Moreton

The Exhales are an indie rock group from Glasgow, Scotland. The group have released two singles to date, dropping their debut track Silver Smile on the 24th of June 2022 and following with Call on Karma six months later. The group recently performed in Glasgow’s Broadcast along side fellow musicians, The Sheratons, Vine and Ann Para.

The night kicked off with music from Ann Para, another indie group with a similar style to each of the bands performing. Their high energy and catchy riffs set the night up perfectly by creating high energy and excitement within the room. Vine followed, again playing incredibly. It is notable how these small groups did an incredible job of hyping the audience up for a great night of music as well as how professional each band sounded. Third on stage was The Sheratons a much punkier group of musicians who did an amazing job of hyping the crowd up with their punchy high energy tracks and encouraging audience members to move around and have fun. The three opening acts were incredible and set the night up perfectly,

After the incredible opening acts, at around 21:30, The Exhales took the stage. The energy in the room was incredible, it was almost like being at a larger scale event with the amount of excitement felt within the crowd. It was clear the audience was filled with supportive fans and music lovers. The four-piece opened with How Did We Get Like This? A slightly more chilled out track that builds to a passionate and energetic chorus.

The group continued with high energy and confidence, maintaining the excitement within the venue, it was clear audience members were loving the set. The setlist had a great variety of tracks that kept the crowd engaged including their two singles which were just as incredible live, sounding equally as impressive as the recordings.

Each member played incredible and appeared confident with great stage presence and a clear comfort in performing. However, the most notable part of the night was how professional The Exhales and the other bands all sounded. The music sounded like it was being performed by professional musicians instead of up and coming indie band’s, it was truly impressive. Finally, the band closed with C.M.T, another energetic track that had the audience jumping and cheering, ending a night of great music on a high.

Overall, The Exhales’ sound is perfect for any fans of indie or alternative music, it is well recorded, professional and just overall enjoyable. If given the chance, music lovers should definitely make the trip to see The Exhales as they were, in short incredible. It is also worth noting again how great each band that played was, they are honestly all worth seeing. It is safe to say The Exhales are beginning the make a name for themselves in the Scottish music scene and it will most definitely not end there. Any one who listens to the group will be excited to see what next from The Exhales.
